Hondaafushi Island Resort, developed by the prominent resort developers AAA Hotels and Resort has been opened for business this Sunday.
The resort is located 7 kilometres northwest of H Dh. Hanimaddhoo, a 15 minutes speedboat ride away from the domestic airport.
Featuring beach bungalows of two categories, the 75 square metre superior and the 89 square metre deluxe, the resort boasts 80 rooms, with further plans to build 400 rooms within the next five years as revealed by AAA Hotels and Resorts.
The resort is being opened at a time the residents of Thiladhunmathi had been lobbying for tourism development in the region as they have been missing out on the economic development that comes with the country’s economic backbone. A large chunk of the country’s working population are from Thiladhunmathi and most are forced to find work in other atolls due to lack of opportunities in the region.
