The reclamation of the land of Hoarafushi has been completed. The project of the land reclamation of HD.Hoarafushi starting from its lagoon to build of the Airport has been completed.
The land reclamation of HD.Hoarafushi using the MTCC Mahaajahraaf was completed last Friday. In the land reclamation an area of 345,500 square meters was reclaimed.67 million Rufiyaa was spent for the reclamation of this area of land which started last April. This project to be completed for the early months of next month was contracted with MTCC for 198 million rufiyaa. MTCC was contracted last year at the time of former presidents abdulla Yameen’s government for the reclamation of land to build the airport in HA.Maa Finolhu. However, with the change of president Yaameen’s government, the present government, instead of the reclamation of Maafinolhu it was decided that the airport will be built by the reclamation of the lagoon of Hoarafushi.
When the building of the airport was changed from Maafinolhu to Hoarafushi, some councils of the Haa Alif Atoll stated that it is not the best location to build an airport. The councils also stated that the decision to build an Airport in Hoarafushi was something that is done through political influence. However, those allegations were rejected by the government.
