Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital (KRH) will be able to begin testing for COVID-19 in two weeks, says KRH’s Manager of Health Services Ahmed Dawood.

In a reply to a tweet inquiring about the progress of the announced plans to enable COVID-19 testing in the hospital, Mr. Dawood cleared that regional hospital would be receiving the PCR machines soon, and further added that he hopes to establish and complete the setup in two weeks’ time.

Addu Equtorial Hospital in the south announced the commencement of COVID-19 testing in the hospital earlier this week, making the Addu region the first with testing capabilities other than the capital Male’ City.

Spokesperson for the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) Mabrouq Azeez assured that facilities to conduct COVID-19 testing will be provided and established in Kulhdhuffushi Hospital and would be able to commence within 10 days. Mr. Mabrouq further said that the training of lab technicians to operate PCR machines in the laboratories in the north and south have also successfully concluded.

The Maldivian government had earlier revealed plans to divide the atolls into five regions and establish testing 5 testing facilities in the atolls.
