The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has stated that work on the second phase of the government’s project to develop Boduthakurufaanu Magu on the northern side of Malé is progressing at a rapid pace.
MTCC noted that sheet piling is currently being prioritized under this project. The company further stated that sheet piling has been completed across a 48-meter area, and land reclamation in that zone is also proceeding swiftly.
Additional Infrastructure Works
As part of the road development efforts, the physical work of laying paving blocks on the pedestrian sidewalks has also commenced. Furthermore, to establish essential services in the area, 50 percent of the installation of sewerage and water pipelines has now been completed.
The Boduthakurufaanu Magu development project was awarded to MTCC in two phases. Under this project, MTCC is developing a total area of 1,088 meters from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the North Harbor. Phase 1, which spans five segments from the Local Market to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal, covers a total length of 838 meters. This project was awarded to MTCC for 144 million Rufiyaa.
The government has also decided to launch another major project to develop the roads of Malé. In this regard, a road construction project in the Malé area is set to be carried out with the assistance of the Chinese government, and preparations are currently underway to begin the physical work.
