The Makkah Route Initiative has proudly declared that serving Maldivian Hajj pilgrims is an honor.
In a heartfelt message shared today on their official social media platforms—accompanied by photos of pilgrims from the third flight—the initiative stated: “It is our honor to serve you.”
This year marks a historic milestone, as it is the first time Maldivian pilgrims are participating in the Makkah Route Initiative. The Maldives was recently included in this initiative as part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, aimed at enhancing services for Hajj pilgrims. This special inclusion was made possible by the directive of King Salman bin Abdulaziz, who granted Maldivian pilgrims exemption from regular travel protocols.
Maldives’ Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, described this gesture as a generous gift from the Saudi government to the people of the Maldives.
Under the Makkah Route Initiative, pilgrims complete all Saudi immigration procedures at Velana International Airport before departure. This streamlined process has drastically reduced waiting times upon arrival in Saudi Arabia, particularly at Jeddah Airport, where pilgrims have been warmly welcomed.
Three flights carrying Maldivian pilgrims have already arrived in Saudi Arabia, with the final flight scheduled to depart on Friday afternoon.
