Kulhudhuffushi City Mayor Mohamed Athif has urged the government to complete the planned and ongoing housing projects in Kulhudhuffushi City at the earliest.

In a Facebook post, Athif requested to complete the 400 housing units that the government has already started to build in Kulhudhuffushi City and 1,000 housing units to be developed in the city under contractor financing in accordance with the agreement signed between USA’s Structures Unlimited and Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Limited.

Moreover, he urged the government to start work on the 2,000 housing units that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had promised to build in the city at the earliest without delay.

Mayor Athif further stated that all grants received by the government from abroad, the amount borrowed from the state and the bulk of the state’s revenue being spent on the development of the Greater Male’ Region is a great disgrace to the people of the atolls. He added that Maldivians want to develop whole country and to achieve this, the developmental projects should be carried across the country not centrally.

In addition, Athif also urged the government to build 30,000 housing units planned by the government in Rasmale’ in a way that will be distributed across the country.
