President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the construction of hospitals in seven islands, including HDh. Hanimaadhoo and Sh. Milandhoo, will be handed over to contractors next week.
President Solih made the remarks while speaking at a ceremony held at Dharubaaruge Malam to mark the World Health Day. Speaking at the ceremony, the President stated that as Maldivians are living in separate islands and are required travel from one island to another for necessities and services. Therefore, even in the event of travel restrictions and the need to stay in the same lockdown as we faced during Covid, Health services can be easily available by expanding health services in all parts of the country, he noted.
Moreover, he stated that development of five tertiary hospitals in five sectors was going on in full swing as per the National Spatial Plan prepared by the government for the purpose. Some of these hospitals have already started providing facilities that were not there earlier. Among them, CT scan, MRI, Mammography and Laboratory services, as well as Dental care services, are also being provided, he noted.
In addition, the President stated that the government is also working on hospitals to be built in different atolls and islands. He stated the bidding process for seven hospitals, which the government had decided to build with the help of Kuwait Fund in seven islands in seven atolls, has been completed and contractors have been selected and the projects will be handed over to the contractors in the coming week.
The seven islands are HDh. Hanimadhoo, Sh. Milandhoo, N. Velidhoo, K. Thulusdhoo, ADh. Maamigili, V. Felidhoo and Th. Vilufushi. Each of these hospitals will have 30 beds and additional services will be provided from these hospitals.
