Minister of Defense of the Republic of India, Rajnath Singh paid a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The meeting took place at President’s Office on Tuesday morning. President Solih praised the long history of strong collaboration with the neighboring nations while speaking at the meeting. According to him, the relationship between the two nations had improved significantly during the previous four years as a result of several high-level visits and interpersonal contact.
The Minister emphasized that the commissioning of the Coast Guard Ship “Huravee” and the Landing Craft gifted during the Defense Minister’s visit would increase the Maldives’ capacity for maritime security and expressed confidence in the continued partnership in defense cooperation between India and the Maldives.
Moreover, President Solih praised the impressive advancements made in the hydrography surveys being carried out with support from India. He continued by thanking the Indian government for giving the equipment needed to carry out the research. The defense minister emphasized that three rounds of surveys had been carried out to support the blue economy proposal of the Maldivian government. He continued by saying that the Maldives had now received the survey-derived charts, and he pledged India’s support for ongoing chart updates.
President Solih followed by expressing his gratitude for India’s ongoing assistance and support for the Maldives in a number of sectors, noting that it is evidence of India’s great esteem for the Maldives. Additionally, he emphasized the Maldives’ commitment to developing this alliance.
In addition, the Indian Defense Minister spoke about the progress of various developmental projects undertaken by India in the Maldives and assured India’s continued assistance and support to the Maldives.
