A fun run has been held to promote this year’s Asian Games.

The fun run to promote this year’s Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, was held at hulhumale’ synthetic track, and run was a 3 kilometre run.

Around 700 people and students participated in the race jointly organised by The Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC), Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and Hangzhou Games Organizing Committee.

National sports associations, school children, Chinese companies, clubs, organizations and members from the public participated in the event. The run began at 0600 hrs today.

Maldives Olympic Committee President Mohamed Abdul Sattar (Champi) stated that the race will make the Asian Games more popular. Such a fun run would be more popular as the Maldives has world-renowned runners in the race and the country is also participating in the Asian Games.

Wang Lixin, Ambassador to China, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, stated the event would strengthen the long-standing ties between the two countries and pave the way for both countries to move to greater heights in the field of sports.

Noting that tourists from China have started coming to the Maldives, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, she stated that China has always played an important role in the tourism sector of the Maldives. Moreover, she noted that as per the latest information, the Maldives is competing in 11 games this time. It’s about 200 athletes. So, it’s important for China as well. This is a great opportunity to promote Chinese tourism in the Maldives..

Song Jianbo, director of co-host city department at the Hangzhou Games, stated China is fully prepared for the Asian Games. Holding the Games in the region will be an important step forward in strengthening relations between countries.

The Games, originally scheduled to take place in Hangzhou in September last year, were postponed to this year due to the COVID-19 situation in China. However, with the COVID-19 situation now improving in China, the Asian Games are scheduled to be held from September 23 to October 8 this year.
