This year’s ‘Miyaheli’ social innovation camp has concluded.
Total 11 civil society organisations from across the Maldives participated in this year’s camp. The participants created innovative ideas themed around ‘Innovation for People, Planet and Prosperity’. And the top three winners were announced at the closing ceremony held in Thulusdhoo.
Three winning ideas were selected out of proposed 12 ideas, after evaluation by a panel of judges; first place went to ICONS Association, second place went to Blind and Visually Impaired Society Maldives, and third place went to Maldives Conservation Society.

The 2022 social innovation challenge, in contrast to previous years, was open to Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), giving CSOs the opportunity to collaborate and co-create solutions to address social issues in their local communities.
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Maldives together with Ooredoo Maldives and its partners have run ‘Miyaheli’ since 2016 to date to empower youth and to encourage social innovation. The series is supported by the generous assistance from the Government of Australia.
The winning 3 CSOs are awarded grants to test-drive their creative solutions. The three winning teams will each receive MVR 300,000 in seed funding, as well as mentorship tailored to their planned budget and needs, to ensure that their ideas can develop further and have an impact.
