A sending-off ceremony has been held at Maldives’ Customs Service (MCS) for the 30 Custom Officers who are visiting National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN), Faridabad from September 26-30, 2022, for a training program.

The ceremony was attended by High Commissioner Munu Mahawar along with Commissioner General of Maldives Customs Service Abulla Shareef. The MoU on Customs Capacity Building was signed in June 2019 during the State Visit of PM of India Narendra Modi to the Maldives.

The MCS officers would be attending a 5 days special training program on “Intelligence, Information and Investigation (3-Is)”. Interactive sessions, case studies on relevant topics like overview of enforcement and intelligence architecture, investigation – physical, financial, cyber, investigation reporting, prosecution,  etc have been included in the training program.

According to High Commissioner Munu Mahawar, Security and other Challenges can only be addressed by cooperation and collaboration including in the area of capacity building. “Capacity Building is an important segment of India-Maldives development cooperation”, he added. And the High Commissioner appreciated custom officers’ participation in all the events in previous training programs.  

India-Maldives cooperation in Customs has grown significantly in recent years. With the current batch going, under the MoU, 160 MCS officials have undergone in-person training in India on various subjects related to customs. In addition, 90 plus MCS officials have also been trained through online programmes. MCS officials are also getting benefitted by ITEC trainings. More capacity building programmes planned in future under the MoU.
