Sh. Funadhoo Council has decided to handover the powerhouse operated by citizens of Funadhoo to Fenaka Corporation.

The council made the decision at a council meeting held yesterday. Prior to the decision, the council met with the public last Saturday night and sought public consultation. During the meeting, the council briefed the public on the challenges faced by the council in running the powerhouse due to the increase in the price of oil in the international market.

According to Funadhoo Council President Ahmed Ibrahim Fulhu, the powerhouse was operating at a loss of MVR 700,000 per month over the past four months. This is the first time the powerhouse has been operating at a loss since 2011. Moreover, a decision was made to save the financial losses even though the majority of the people want to run it as it is now.

Furthermore, currently 15 employees are working at the powerhouse. The powerhouse currently has a generator of 1,200 kW, two generators of 409 kW, one generator of 800 kW, one generator of 250 kW and one generator of 625 kW with a modern panel board.

The powerhouse has been operated by the people of Funadhoo since 1983.
