As part of the government’s project to upgrade regional hospitals in the country, Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem has revealed the construction of a new 100 bed tertiary hospital in Kulhudhuffushi City will begin this year.
Minister Naseem made the remarks in a video message sent to the doctors at a ceremony held at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital to mark The National Doctor’s Day.
According to the Minister, even though it’s scheduled to begin this year, the construction process will take a minimum of two years. However, the current ongoing process of enhancing Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital’s (KRH) Clinical and Primary Care Services will be going as per the plan.
Moreover, Minister Naseem noted that the quality of health services provided by KRH has improved significantly since maldivian specialists joined KRH, and thanked the doctors for their hard work.
Furthermore, Commissioner of Quality Assurance Uza Thasleema Usman stated in her video message that “in an era where almost all the specialists wanted to work in Male’, these few doctors, they went into the unknown and took the initiative to improve healthcare at peripheral facilities. The growth that we are seeing in this particular institution – in KRH is definitely pioneered by these doctors. They have been the pillars of the continuous progress and the continuous improvement that is seen in KRH.”
In addition, various activities were organized by doctors at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital to mark National Doctors’ Day. In this regard, a futsal match between doctors and a health evening were also held to provide health information on various specialities open to the public.
National Doctor’s Day is celebrated on April 18, since it was the day that the first Maldivian doctor started to serve in the Maldives.
