At the mangrove of Ha.Kelaa, fishes have started to die mysteriously.
Council president of Ha.Kelaa, Mr.Adam Furuqaan has said to the “Thiladhun” news that from the mangrove, it has seen that a lot of fishes have died mysteriously. He also added that, the cause has yet not been identified but it is believed that the water temperature has risen these past days and this has led to the level of water to decrease as well. He believes that this might be a probable cause to this.
The council president also said that this issue has been a repetitive issue and this has been notified for them and they have been trying to know the probable cause and tackle it.
People from the island also states that the mangrove area is filled with a foul dead fish smell and they infested the mangrove with fishes to eradicate the laying of mosquito eggs.

It has also come to our notice that quite a number of fishes has started to die from H.dh Neykurendhoo’s mangrove as well. And a survey was conducted by the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture and they have stated that the cause might be due to the change of pattern of weather or even due to the infestation of a different breed of organism in the water.
Under the law of protection of the environment of the Maldives no. 93/4, part 4, since 17th June 2019, this mangrove is a well protected area as well. It is also worthy to mention that this mangrove is the only mangrove which is protected at Haa Alif Atoll.
This mangrove is also a well know tourist destination spot where a lot of visitors praise for its location along with the serene beauty surrounding it.

Looking into the natural beauty of the island, Kelaa being the most northern island of the Maldives, the whole island is 212 hectors big while the mangrove and muddy water accumulates 22 hectors of it.
These mangroves and muddy waters are also very much historic as well. During the time of world war and the time where the whole world went into the great famine, the islands people sustained with the trees and shrubs that were found at this mangrove.
