Terms have been agreed upon the establishment of drinking water supply in 5 islands, under the China aid project.

The Chinese ambassador for Maldives, Zhang Lizhong has tweeted that micro grid seawater desalination projects in 5 Islands will commence.

The 5 islands which will have a newly established drinking water system are HA. Kela, K. Kashidhoo, LH. Olhuvelifushi, R. Alifushi and GA Dhaandhoo.

Jung Li Jong informs that the total expenditure for the project is an estimated 1.8 million dollars.

The Chinese ambassador for Maldives also stated that China will continue to aid the Maldivian government in providing essential facilities to the citizens.

Various Chinese projects are currently commencing in the Maldives with notable mentions including the Sinamale Bridge maintenance, Hiyaa housing units project and the upgrading of Velana International Airport in hulhule.

Wes China continues to help Maldives following the Covid-19 pandemic. Chinese company Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) renovated 2 story buildings in Hulhumale, while a BUCG workers taskforce is working on building a 327 bed quarentine facilities, according to Jung Li Jong.

China Construction Cooperation had provided the employees of ADK hospital with person protective equipment (PPE) while China’s Telhow International Engineering and Contracting Company has provided the Maldives with 200000 face masks.

The Chinese government has also freely provided the Maldives with quarantine facilities at hulhumale phase 2. Maldives was also included in the list of 77 countries which had debts to the Chinese government postponed.

China has assisted Maldives during the Covid-19 pandemic by providing medical supplies including 5000 face masks, 5000 surgical masks, 5000 PPT kits and 5000 medical goggles.

On May 29th this year, the Chinese government provided the maldives with free health supplies including 10000 testing kits and sample skits, 209080 disposable masks, 11595 masks, 350 medical suits and 10 ventilators.
