HA. Ihavandhoo’s Covid-19 Management Facility set to commence its operations after being inaugurated, Saturday night. 

The inaugural ceremony of the facility, which was located at Amina Dhiyo Health Centre in Ihavandhoo, was held virtually with Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid as its chief guest. 

The virtual ceremony was also attended by Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen, Director General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and relevant parliamentarians in addition to managers of the facilities and senior health ministry officials.

A team of officials from Ministry of Health and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) paid a visit to Amina Dhiyo Health Centre in Ihavandhoo on 18th and 19th July, to inspect the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) facility of the centre. The team also met with the staff of the centre and provided them with training pointers.

Government decided to establish Covid management facilities in five regions of the country. Each region will offer covid-19 management services to atolls designated to that particular zone. In this regard, the facilities will operate in the zones as follows: 

Gan facility – Meemu Atoll, Faafu Atoll, Dhaalu Atoll, Thaa Atoll and Laamu Atoll.

Villingili facility – Gaafu Alif Atoll, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll

Eydhafushi facility – Noonu Atoll, Raa Atoll, Baa Atoll and Lhaviyani Atoll

Funadhoo facility – Haa Alif Atoll, Haa Dhaalu Atoll and Shaviyani Atoll

Hithadhoo facility – Fuvahmulah and Addu Atoll.

The first atoll-based facilities were established in Funadhoo, Shaviyani Atoll and Eydhafushi, Baa Atoll, with them commencing operations on July 16.

The COVID-19 health facilities instituted in Gan, Laamu Atoll and Villingili, Gaafu Alif Atoll began operations on July 21. 

All the facilities comprise of 20 beds in the ICU, 30 in isolation, ventilators, and are fit to carry out COVID-19 testing.
