Ministry of Tourism has published a special instructions booklet titled ‘Guideline for Restarting Tourism in Maldives’ as the country prepares to open it’s borders on the 15th of next month.

The 28 page guide contains information starting from visa issuance guidelines, operations at the airport, to handling luggage, airport transfers to checkout procedures. It also contains instructions about the standards that needed to be maintained while reopening, for resorts, as well as guidelines for staffing, check-in and emergency procedures. A section for tourist vessels and guest houses are included as well.

In the guide’s foreword, Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed deems the measures taken by the country as necessary to curb and control COVID-19, and the strong precautionary measures for the tourism industry a necessity to ensure the safety of the residents and incoming tourists as restrictions are being eased and the country enters a new normal. “The Maldives believes the key to successful post pandemic tourism is a balance between confidence and convenience.” Minister Ali Waheed affirmed as a closing statement.

All visitors would be granted an on arrival visa as per the guidelines and requires all incoming guests to have a confirmed pre-booking in a registered tourist facility. Temperature checks and other screening measures are to set in place at the airport and to tourists are advised to wear face masks and maintain social distancing at all times. Symptomatic individuals are said to be tested for the virus, and random sampling of tourists are to be conducted at the airport as an additional safety measure.

At least 36 resorts in the Maldives are set to reopen as reported by the travel news website Travel Trade Maldives along with the country’s borders on July 15th.

In a press conference held at the National Emergency Operations Center this Wednesday, Tourism Minister Ali Waheed also revealed details about discussions with various airlines to recommence commence operations as well.
