An office of the Maldives Immigration was opened in Hdh. Hanimaadhoo, and passport services were launched there last night.
According to the Hanimaadhoo Council, the Immigration Hanimaadhoo Passport Collecting Point was inaugurated on the night of Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
Therefore, the Hanimaadhoo Council stated that passport services will be available through the Hanimaadhoo Immigration Office.
To establish an Immigration office, the Council allocated office space for Immigration within the premises of the Hanimaadhoo Council Secretariat.
The Council had revealed in the last week of August that they had made the arrangements requested by the government to the island council for launching passport and ID card services in Hanimaadhoo.

During his visit to the islands of Hdh. Atoll last August, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu met with the residents of Hanimaadhoo on the night of the 24th of that month. In his address, he stated that once the Council arranges a suitable location to proceed with the services, the government would launch passport and ID card services in Hanimaadhoo.
The Hanimaadhoo Council responded to the President’s request by dedicating a part of the space used by the councilors—which was added to the council building during the current term—for providing these services.
The Hanimaadhoo Council has an MDP majority. Four members, including the Council President, belong to the MDP. The remaining member belongs to the Jumhooree Party (JP).
The service for printing Maldivian National Identity Cards in Hanimaadhoo was launched on October 4, 2025.
The government arranged for passport services to be available in Hanimaadhoo, making it the third island in Hdh. Atoll to establish this service. While the service has been available in Kulhudhuffushi City since July 26, 2014, it was launched in Makunudhoo on August 26, 2025.
