The asphalting work on Segment 1 of the first phase of the project to develop Boduthakurufaanu Magu to modern standards began today.
The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), which is carrying out the work, stated that the asphalting of Segment 1 has commenced up to the Shaheedh Hussain Adam Building. This area measures 130 meters.
The Boduthakurufaanu Magu development project is being carried out in a total of 5 segments. The first phase involves development from the Male’ Local Market area up to the Hulhumalé Ferry Terminal.
MTCC stated that the asphalting work has now begun, and that the work in this area commenced after sheet piling and reclamation of a 132-meter stretch in front of the central bank. As part of the work, the land embankment in that area was developed after extending the outer seawall 6 meters outwards to widen the road.
Under this project, the road is being developed with a modern drainage system. MTCC has revealed that 97 percent of the work to widen Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Male’ to four lanes in front of the MMA (Maldives Monetary Authority) has been completed. The company said that the work is progressing according to the set schedule and that they plan to complete the work before the start of the upcoming month of Ramadan.
MTCC began the physical work of the project to widen and develop the northern side of Boduthakurufaanu Magu on August 21st last year. A total of 830 meters of road will be developed across all 5 segments of this project. MTCC is working 24 hours a day to expedite the work. When the development of this 4-lane road is completed, it will also include dedicated lanes for drivers and pedestrians.
This project was awarded to MTCC for MVR 144,509,024.16. This project is funded by the Maldivian state budget and was awarded to MTCC by the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure. The company has been tasked with completing the work within 455 days. While the asphalting work under the first phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu development has begun, MTCC is now also preparing to start the work on the second phase.
