State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has concluded the electrician course it conducted specifically to enhance the skills of women. This course was an important initiative carried out with the objective of encouraging women’s interest in the electrical field and facilitating opportunities for them to work on par with men. The course, which was open to the public and allowed women aged 16 and above to participate, involved a total of 116 participants divided into seven batches. At the ceremony held to award certificates to the participants who completed the course, the certificates were presented by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, STELCO’s Managing Director Ahmed Samah Rasheed, and the company’s Deputy Managing Director Aishath Muzna. Experienced STELCO employees served as the trainers for this course. STELCO stated that the course provided basic information on house wiring, practical methods for carrying out the work, as well as how to install the equipment needed for wiring and commonly used electrical appliances. Furthermore, participants were also given information on how to resolve issues encountered with distribution boards (DB boards). While significant attention was given to electrical safety matters in this course, participants were also taught how to safely use electrical equipment in households and techniques to reduce electricity consumption. STELCO’s objective is to provide equal opportunities for women in this field. Speaking at the course completion ceremony, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed highlighted the importance of such a course.
