Ahmed Abdulla (Roaze), the Council Member for the Northwest Constituency of Kulhudhuffushi City, has been elected to the position of Deputy Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi City. Roaze was elected to the position following the resignation of the city’s former Deputy Mayor, Ali Ahmed. The election took place today during the 230th ordinary meeting of the City Council’s fourth term. In the opportunity opened for councilors to appoint a new Deputy Mayor, Roaze was the only candidate to put his name forward for the position. A secret ballot (vote of confidence) was subsequently held among the attendees of today’s meeting, including Mayor Mohamed Athif, Council Members Ridwan Mohamed, Athifa Ali, and Ibrahim Ahmed, in addition to Roaze. In the vote, all attendees of today’s meeting voted in favor of electing Roaze as the Deputy Mayor. The former Deputy Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi City, Ali Ahmed, resigned from the position last October after being awarded the Chevening Scholarship by the British government to pursue a Master’s degree in “Environment, Politics and Development” at King’s College London in the United Kingdom.
