The host island of Utheemu has secured the final spot in the semi-finals of the “Thila Uthuru Futsal Tournament 2025,” organized by the Haa Alifu Atoll Council and open to the atoll’s islands. Utheemu advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Filladhoo 3-2 at the Utheemu Official Football Ground on Saturday night at 20:30. In the match where Utheemu secured their semi-final berth without a single loss, both teams needed a win to guarantee a spot in the semi-finals. If the match had ended in a draw, Vashafaru would have advanced. With Utheemu’s victory, Vashafaru’s tournament run has ended, despite them not having lost a single match in the competition. The match between Utheemu and Filladhoo was highly competitive and thrilling. Utheemu scored the first goal and took the lead, a goal netted by Mohamed Rishmee. While Utheemu held a one-goal lead, Filladhoo equalized with a goal from Ali Afraah. Filladhoo then took the lead with a goal scored by Adam Abdulraheem. However, less than a minute after Filladhoo took the lead, Mohamed Mazeen of Utheemu leveled the score. The third goal for Utheemu, which secured their semi-final spot, was scored by Ahmed Aiham, a notable figure in Maldivian football who plays for the national team and Maziya, and who joined the Utheemu team for this match. The goal came from a penalty awarded to Utheemu. In the semi-finals of this tournament, Utheemu will face Dhihdhoo, the second-place team in Group A and the first-place team in Group B, respectively. The other semi-final will see the Group A winner, the reigning champion Ihavandhoo, compete against Muraydhoo. The semi-final matches of the tournament will be played on Monday, October 10, at 16:30 and 20:30. The first semi-final will feature Ihavandhoo and Muraydhoo, and the second match will be Utheemu against Dhihdhoo. The tournament is divided into two groups. Group A includes Ihavandhoo, Utheemu, Vashafaru, Filladhoo, and Hoarafushi. Group B consists of Dhihdhoo, Muraydhoo, Baarah, and Kelaa.
