Shaviyani Atoll Council has announced a large-scale cleaning campaign named “Nalaveshi – Shaviyanee 2025” in celebration of World Environment Day.
Although World Environment Day is usually observed on June 5th, this year it falls on Hajj Day, so the campaign has been rescheduled to June 20th. The cleaning effort will take place across all 14 inhabited islands in the atoll.
Council President Mohamed Shiyam stated that the campaign will focus on cleaning public spaces and beaches. He added that while similar events have been held in the past, this will be the biggest cleaning campaign ever organized in the atoll.
The event will involve island residents, schools, institutions, and community members of all ages. The aim is to raise environmental awareness, encourage community participation, and help keep the islands clean and beautiful.
This initiative highlights the Atoll Council’s strong commitment to protecting the environment and promoting a cleaner, healthier community.
