Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced the completion of a greenhouse and hydroponics project in B. Kihaadhoo, which was funded under the Bank’s Small Grant Fund.

The project was carried out by Kihaadhoo Development Society (KIDS).

According to BML, under this project, 4 hydroponics systems were established with 180 slots in each system to grow over 700 plants at the same time. The revenue generated from the project will be utilized for the NGO’s activities.

Moreover, Kihaadhoo Development Society also conducted training sessions to interested locals in partnership with the island’s Women’s Development Committee (WDC) to educate the community and raise awareness about hydroponics and farming.

The BML Small Grants fund was introduced as part of the Bank’s 40th anniversary to allow NGOs to access financing to carry out community-based projects that address environmental issues and promote sustainable development.
