For the first time, 200, 000 tourists have visited the Maldives in a month.
According to the latest reports released by the Ministry of Tourism, a total of 200,004 tourists visited the Maldives as of February 26. This is an increase of 19.9 per cent compared to 1,66,762 tourists who visited the country in the same period in February last year.
Statistics show that 392,389 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, an increase of 15.7% over the same period last year.
The increase in tourists in the Maldives is due to an increase in the number of Chinese travellers this year. At present, the largest number of tourist arrivals are from China.
A total of 52,702 tourists from China have visited the Maldives so far this year, followed by 37,877 from Russia and 37,393 from Italy.
Furthermore, while record number of tourists visited the Maldives this month, a total of 10,213 tourists visited the Maldives on February 10. This is the highest number of tourist arrivals in a single day in the country’s history.
The government estimates that 2 million tourists will visit the Maldives this year.
