Maldives has defended the ‘World’s Leading Destination 2023’ award, the most prestigious award at the World Travel Awards (WTA), for a fourth consecutive year.
At the World Travel Awards event held at Dubai’s iconic Burj Al Arab on December 1, 2023, Maldives once again claimed the two most distinguished awards. The Maldives won the ‘World’s Leading Destination 2023’ after competing with 17 countries. They are: Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Dubai, Greece, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenya, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, USA, and Vietnam.
The Maldives also received several other awards at the WTA. MMPRC received the Leading Tourism Board Award for the second consecutive year. Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) received the World Leading Seaplane Operator Award, Hulhule’ Island Hotel received World’s Leading Airport Resort Award, JA Manafaru received World’s Leading Honeymoon Resort Award, Vakkaru Maldives received World’s Leading Luxury Honeymoon Resort Award, Velaa Private Island received World’s Leading Private Island Resort Award, Hotel Jen Male’ by Shangri-La received World’s Leading Boutique Airport Hotel Award, and Baros Maldives received World’s Leading Romantic Resort Award. And Toyyib Mohamed received the Special Achievement Award and Dr. Abdulla Mausoom received Travel Personality of the Year. Further, Maldives also received the newly-introduced Global Tourism Resilience Award at this event, given to the 5 leading destinations and countries for strategically building capacity to recover swiftly and thrive after disruptions.
These wins are testament to the Maldives’ exceptional standing in the global tourism landscape and the enduring appeal of the Sunny Side of Life to travellers worldwide.
The WTA awards are one of the most prestigious awards in world tourism as well as in the transportation industry.
