Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL) has been awarded the operation of F. Magoodhoo Airport which is still under construction.
As per the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and RACL, the company has now been given all the powers to operate the airport.
The MVR 230 million project to develop an Airport in Magoodhoo was awarded toMaldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). Initially a 1200 meter runway was planned to be built at the airport under the project, however, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih decided to change it to a 1800 meter runway.
According to RACL, work on the airport’s fire building and passenger terminal structure has been completed and finishing work is currently underway. A Jet parking area and a Jet fuel farm will be developed at the airport and it is expected to be completed by the first quarter of next year.
Moreover, the project also includes the construction of a hotel where crew arriving in Jet can stay during their stay overs. RACL stated that if the work goes as per schedule, the airport will start operating in January.
In addition, according to RACL, Airport developing at M. Muli will also be completed and operations will be commenced in the first quarter of next year.
