Utheemu and Vashafaru has reached to the final of ‘Thila Uthuru Futsal Tournament 2023’, organized by Haa Atoll Council in collaboration with Maarandhoo Council.
The two semi-final matches of the tournament were played in Maarandhoo yesterday evening and the first semi-final was played between Utheemu and Muraidhoo. Utheemu won the match on penalties 6-5 as match ended in a draw after full time.
In the second semi-final match of the tournament, defending champions Filladhoo played against Vashafaru. Vashafaru won the match 2-1 to qualify for the final of the tournament.
The final match of the tournament will be played at 16:00hrs on Friday, November 10 at Maarandhoo Futsal Ground.
A total 11 teams have participated in the tournament. They are: Thakandhoo, Utheemu, Filladhoo, Baarah, Maarandhoo, Thuraakunu, Kelaa, Vashafaru, Ihavandhoo, Muraidhoo, and Dhidhdhoo.
The objectives of organizing the tournament are to promote friendship and harmony among the islands of the atoll, promote social bonds and promote the spirit of sportsmanship.
The winning team will receive a cash prize of MVR 30,000 while the runners-up will get a cash prize of MVR 15,000 and fair play team will receive MVR 10,000. And several other positions will be selected and awarded.
The first edition of ‘Thila Uthuru Futsal Tournament’ was held at Ha. Utheemu last year and Ha. Filladhoo were the champions of the tournament. This year is the second year the tournament is being held.
