‘Thila Uthuru Futsal Tournament 2023’, organized by Haa Atoll Council in collaboration with Maarandhoo Council has commenced.
Four matches were played in the tournament yesterday. Utheemu won the match against Thakandhoo 6-0. Mohamed Mazeen, from Utheemu was selected as the best player of the match. In the match between Muraidhoo and Ihavandhoo, Muraidhoo won the match Hishan from Muraidhoo team was selected as the best player of the match.
Defending champion Filladhoo won their match against Baarah 3-2. Abdulla Ihwan from Filladhoo team was selected as the best player of the match. Maarandhoo won their match against Kelaa 2-1. Mohamed Rameez from the Maarandhoo team was selected as the best player of the match.
The four matches to be played in the tournament today:
- Maarandhoo – Thurakunu 15:45hrs
- Dhidhdhoo – Ihavandhoo 15:45hrs
- Vashafaru – Kelaa 16:50hrs
- Thakandhoo – Baarah 16:50hrs
A total 11 teams have participated in the tournament. They are: Thakandhoo, Utheemu, Filladhoo, Baarah, Maarandhoo, Thuraakunu, Kelaa, Vashafaru, Ihavandhoo, Muraidhoo, and Dhidhdhoo.
The objectives of organizing the tournament are to promote friendship and harmony among the islands of the atoll, promote social bonds and promote the spirit of sportsmanship.
The winning team will receive a cash prize of MVR 30,000 while the runners-up will get a cash prize of MVR 15,000 and fair play team will receive MVR 10,000. And several other positions will be selected and awarded.
The first edition of ‘Thila Uthuru Futsal Tournament’ was held at Ha. Utheemu last year and Ha. Filladhoo were the champions of the tournament. This year is the second year the tournament is being held.
