Special activities has been held at Ha. Baarah to mark this year’s National Day.

According to Atoll Council President Moosa Shafeeq activities began with the flag hoisting ceremony held the day before yesterday morning. Also, a special ceremony was held at 10:00 hrs.

Moreover, he noted that even though there were challenges due to weather conditions, cultural activities were also held in the evening. He added that the atoll council has included such activities in the calendar and are included in the budget. And agreement has been signed to provide MVR 50,000 to the Baarah Council for carrying out the event.

Although the government has officially decided to celebrate the National Day Ha. Utheemu, Baarah is also historically related to activities carried out by the heroic sacrifices of the national hero al-Sultan Muhammad Thakurufaanu and his companions in securing the nation’s independence.

While the Atoll Council funded the activities, these activities were planned and organized in collaboration with the island’s institutes, clubs and organizations.
