President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has inaugurated the largest surfing competition in Asia, ‘Asian Surfing Championship 2023’.

The competition will be held on K. Thulusdhoo from July 8-17, 2023.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Vice President Faisal Naseem, Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof, and the President of the Asian Surfing Federation, along with surfers and officials from the participating nations.

In the opening remarks President Solih expressed his gratitude to the organizers and wished the surfers well and expressed his hope for their success. As a token of appreciation, the Asian Surfing Federation gave the President a plaque. A sand ceremony that represented the unity of the participating nations and the blending of different cultures and backgrounds within the teams was also a component of the opening ceremony. It also represented the spirit of collaborative harmony and sportsmanship among the competing surfers.

President Solih inspected the venues set up for the competition after the official opening. The Asian Surfing Federation, the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment, and the Maldives Surfing Association are all partners in organizing the Asian Surfing Championship in 2023.

Since 2004, the Asian Surfing Championship has been the biggest surfing event in Asia. This year’s competition will include surfers from 18 different countries and is open to all Asian countries.
