A training program to teach people how to plant trees in their homes has conducted in Kulhudhuffushi City.

The program is a joint initiative of Kulhudhuffushi City Council and Small Island Geographic Society as part of the Sustainable Livelihood and Economy Recovery Planning Project. As part of the training, theory sessions for planting trees, how to diagnose and control the plant diseases, and practical sessions on planting were conducted.

According to Kulhudhuffushi City Deputy Mayor Ali Ahmed, 55 applicants had enrolled for the program, which was held from June 22 to 25, however this time only 30 participants were given chance to participate in the program. He stated that chance was given to the participants who noted their names first as a large number of people had requested to participate.

Moreover, the main objective of the program is to make a profit by cultivating as little as possible in the backyard of residential houses as the city has few farmers who works in the farm fields.

In addition, Ali Ahmed stated that during the program participants were explained how farming can be done in such a way that with no chemicals or as little as possible. Also, participants were taught how to farm in sustainable manner in small spaces.
