Four teams from four islands of Haa Dhaau Atoll has participated in the 2nd edition of ‘Kulhudhuffushi Championship 2023’ Football Tournament organized by Kulhudhuffushi City Council.

According to Kulhudhuffushi City Council, clubs and Non-governmental organization (NGOs) of Kulhudhuffushi registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs or the Sports Commission of the Ministry of Youth were given opportunity to participate in the tournament initially. And council decided to provide opportunity for first eight applicants.

However, only four teams from the island participated in the tournament. The teams are last year’s champion Club Corals, Hirafus Sports Club, Zigzag for Youth Linkage and Maattey Sports.Therefore, council invited teams from other islands (Clubs and NGOs) to participate in the tournament. The four teams are Hanimaadhoo Zuvaanunge Jamiyya, Nolhivaram Club Huvasa, Naivaadhoo Trainers Sports Club and Nolhivaranfaru Sports Club.

The objectives of organizing the tournament include providing an opportunity to all football lovers, including the youth of Kulhudhuffushi, to enhance the football skills of the youth, to produce youth who play football at the national level in the city and to make the city a supportive island for the development of football. Taking football to a new level in the city and keeping the youth away from crime are also the objectives of organizing the tournament.

In addition, the winning team will be awarded with MVR 60,000 while the runners-up will get MVR 15,000. And cash prize and trophies will be given to other selected winners from matches and tournament.

This year’s tournament is scheduled to begin on June 3, 2023.
