Ophthalmologists consultation services has begun in Haa Alifu Atoll Hospital in the capital, Dhidhdhoo. 

The service was launched on May 20. The service was inaugurated by Dhidhdhoo MP Abdulla Waheed at a ceremony held for the purpose.

According to Hospital’s manager Adam Naseer it took two to three months of work to start the service in the hospital. And he stated that apart from consultation, eye numbers can be checked to make the glasses.

Moreover, he stated it was very demanding to see an ophthalmologist and the service would continue to be expanded in the near future. And they have also decided to introduce eye surgery services as well.

However, he noted that they are still trying to get some tools required to provide the service.  The Health Ministry is in the process of procuring them, he added. Furthermore, he noted that they currently have a pool of doctors, they only lack the equipment.

In addition, he also stated that an outreach program will be held on May 24, by the hospital and first will be visiting Ihavandhoo.
