Maldives State Shipping (MSS) has revealed that it is preparing to start its operations to Kulhudhuffushi City and Addu City.
Speaking on state media PSM’s Raajje Miadhu program, MSS Executive Director Captain Mohamed Nazim stated that the search for a vessel had begun a month ago to begin its operations to the two destinations.
Moreover, he pointed out that the company had previously started operations to Addu City, but the operation was called off as it was not feasible as it did not have enough goods from there. Nazim also stated that the newly acquired boat would be smaller than the previous one and would be suitable to operate in the area. This time, the company has already done the research before starting the operations.
Furthermore, he added that this time it is hopeful that the project would be sustainable and it would be beneficial for the people of both the cities. Also he noted that the boat brought to the Maldives will arrive in the Maldives in the next two to three months and with the commencement of operations, goods can be booked to Addu or Kulhudhuffushi from anywhere in the world. This will solve the problems of transporting goods from Male’ city to Kulhudhuffushi or Addu, he added.
In addition, businesses can bring goods from any country in collaboration with the MSS. According to the MSS, major countries that goods are imported to Maldives are Dubai, Bangkok, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Kuwait, Indonesia and China.
