Kethi Araa, a registered NGO in HDh. Hanimaadhoo, has decided to organize a Fishing Race as part this year’s Eid-al-Fitr celebrations.
According to Kethi Araa Jamiyya, teams of both genders will be able to participate in the Fishing Race this year. While the women’s fishing race will be held on Eid-al-Fitr, the men’s fish race will be held on the day after of Eid-al-Fitr.
The competition prohibits fishing using modern equipment or sports fishing equipment, Jiging, trolling and popping will be banned in the competition. It is also prohibited to fish with live baits. Moreover, variety of fish that are banned from use or consumption in the country, such as Dolphins and Sharks will not be counted in the competition. If such a fish is catched, it is advised to be released immediately.
The first place will be selected based on the total weight of the fish catches. In the competition first, second and third place will be selected. If the weight of the fish is the same for two teams, then it will be seen that the first of the two teams will be able to reach the fish weighing area will be the winner. Furthermore, the person who catches the heaviest fish, who catches the highest number of fish, and other surprising winner will be selected.
