A water spraying program to the roads has been launched in Ha. Ihavandhoo to address the dust problems faced by the residents due to droughts.
The program is a joint initiative between Ihavandhoo Council and Club Polestar, a registered club in Ihavandhoo.
Speaking regarding the program, Club Polestar President Mohamed Shujau stated that Ihavandhoo is an island with a large number of vehicles, and due to the lack of rain for a long time, the major roads used are very dusty and causing inconvenience to all the road users.
Therefore, to address the issue Council and Club Polestar sprayed salt water to the roads on the nights March 29 and 30, to control the dust due to droughts. Moreover, Shujau further stated that they will continue the program on these roads once every three days if the drought is continued without rain for longer time.
Council staff and Club Polestar members have been actively involved in water spraying of roads. This is the hottest period of the monsoon season in the country. With only a few days of rainfall, islands across the country are facing the problem of drought.
