The Department of National Registration (DNR) has signed an agreement with Encrea Private Limited, which offered the best design to redesign the National Identity Card (ID card).
According to DNR, Encria Private Limited’s design has been selected as the best design following the department’s announcement to design new ID cards.
Moreover, DNR stated that the department has decided to change the design of the ID card and introduce a smart ID card with modern security features that have DNR’s complete confidence.
Initially redesigning of ID card was opened on June 27 last year, but was reopened on October 16 last year after the announcement was revoked due to a problem with the DNR’s server.
Encria, which presented the best design of the new ID card, is a company of renowned graphics designers Abdulla Shafiu (Abo) and Hussain Shazif Adam, who has so far produced some of the best designs in the country.
The ID card currently in use in the Maldives was introduced in 1984 during former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration.
