The Maldives Media Council (MMC) and the High Commission of Pakistan (HCP) has held discussions for the possibility of providing training and capacity building programs for Maldivian journalists through Pakistani Educational institutions.
The meeting was attended by the President of the MMC Ahmed Musthafa, Council Member Mohamed Afrah, Council Member Moosa Rasheed, Council Member Uza Arumaan Rasheed, and Secretary General Dr. Ibrahim Sameer and the meeting was attended by Pakistan’s High Commissioner, H.E. Vice Admiral Retd Mohamed Fayyaz Gilani and Deputy Head of Mission Zulqurnain Ahmad.
Moreover, the focus of the discussions was on assistance in sending Maldivian journalists to Pakistan for training and initiatives to build their capacities. Also, discussed whether it would be possible to invite experts from Pakistan educational institutions to visit the Maldives and hold training sessions here in Maldives. And the discussions held on facilitation of short- and long-term journalism scholarships programmes from Pakistan to Maldives.
Furthermore, The Pakistan High Commissioner assured that he would facilitate in providing training and capacity building programs for Maldivian journalists. Also he assured that he would assist in setting up training programs in Maldives.
In addition, the Pakistan High Commissioner pledged to continue supporting the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MMC and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of Pakistan to work collaboratively.
