With the arrival of 1.6 millionth tourist, this year’s target set by the government has been achieved.
The 1.6 millionth tourist arrived on Tuesday afternoon. Vice President Faisal Naseem officially welcomed the 1.6 millionth visitor to the Maldives at a ceremony at Velana International Airport (VIA) this afternoon. The event was organised by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) with the assistance of other relevant government offices and institutions. The Maldives reached the target with the combined efforts of relevant government agencies, the private sector, and industry stakeholders.
Last year Maldives achieved the target of attracting 1.3 million tourists two months before end of th year. Compare to last year Maldives has attracted 23.1% more travelers.
MMPRC carried out 171 different marketing activities in global markets this year, including fairs, roadshows, familiarization trips, marketing campaigns, webinars, and interviews. The greatest testament to the success of these activities came late last year, as the Maldives secured the title of ‘World’s Leading Destination’ for the third consecutive year.
