The training programme on agriculture held at Ha. Utheemu has been concluded.
According to Utheemu Council, the training programme was conducted by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture in the island.
A special ceremony was held to conclude the 10-day programme and certificates were given to 26 participants who completed the programme.
Utheemu Council President Abdulla Rasheed stated that the programme was part of an opportunity provided by the Ministry of Agriculture as per the council’s request to conduct such a programme for the purpose of reviving agriculture in Utheemu and producing farmers. Therefore, Abdulla Rasheed thanked Minister of Agriculture and Ministry of Agriculture for conducting the programme in the island. And he further stated that programme was conducted with both theory and practical.
Moreover, at the time when the world was halted by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Utheemu Council has provided an opportunity for the people to work on farming in the island by providing 44 land plots free of charge for three years. Since then, 40 land plots with 2,000 square feet have been rented for agricultural purposes, at a rate of MVR 0.05 per square feet.
