President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with members of the island council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) of Shaviyani Bilehfahi on Sunday.

The most pertinent needs and developmental requirements of the island community were the main topics of discussion during the meeting held at the President’s Office.

The council members underlined during the meeting the many development initiatives made by the administration and observed that 95% of the projects promised by the President are currently underway.

Moreover, council members asked the president to broaden the project’s scope in order to address the community’s concerns about the harbour extension project, which included issues with accessing the entry channel and docking ships for maintenance. They also emphasized the necessity of creating a youth center and creating sporting possibilities.

During the meeting, the necessity of building roads, coastal protection, and accelerating the airport development project were also highlighted. The council members also shared concerns about the proposed waste management centre.

The President heard from members of the WDC about their worries over tight financial restrictions, the lack of designated office space, and the demand for a women’s indoor gym. Furthermore, the needs of the Kanditheemu Constituency were also discussed by the President and the delegates.

The President promised during the meeting that the projects for which a budget has been allocated will move forward as scheduled. The President also let the council members know that the airport construction project will start shortly and that the WDC members’ complaints would be taken into consideration. Additionally, he gave the assurance that the government would make an effort to consider requests regarding the size of the harbour project.

In addition, the council members expressed their appreciation to the President for listening to their concerns and agreeing to find amicable solutions.
