The Office of the Children’s Ombudsperson office has conducted a ‘Child Rights Community Audit’ in Ha. Dhidhdhoo.
According to the Ombudsperson office, as part of the community audit, the civic body visited various institutions in the island to protect the rights of children, conducted interviews and inspected some of them.
Moreover, during the workshop conducted for stakeholders with these audited institutions, awareness on the Child Rights Act, important issues identified by the audited institutions were shared with the institutes.
It also highlighted the challenges faced by these institutions while dealing with child-related issues and shared information on how institutes can work together to ensure the rights of children.
The workshop was participated by Haa Alifu Atoll Education Center, Haa Alifu Atoll Hospital, Haa Alifu Family and Children’s Service Center, Ha. Dhidhdhoo Police Station, Ha. Dhidhdhoo Magistrate Court and Dhidhdhoo Council.
The Children’s Ombudsperson Office was set up on July 23, 2020 under the Child’s Right Act. The main functions of the Office are to assess the compliance of state institutions to the Protection of Children under Child’s Right Act and the United Nations International Convention on the Rights of the Child, to monitor and evaluate the agencies and staff involved in the protection of child rights in the Maldives, and to investigate the actions of the agencies and staff involved in the protection of child rights in the Maldives.
The Children’s Ombudsperson Office will investigate allegations of negligence on the part of state agencies and their staff working in the interest of children.
