Raaje Transport Link (RTL) ferry service has been officially launched in Zone 1 (Haa Alif Atoll, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Shaviyani Atoll), connecting Bodu Thiladhunmathi.
The service was inaugurated by the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at a special function held at the harbour area of Ha. Dhidhdhoo last night. The ceremony was attended by Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam, cabinet ministers, members of the parliament, senior government official, CEO of MTCC Adam Azim, and senior management of the company.
RTL services as part of the Integrated National Public Ferry Network aims to connect Maldives through a high speed ferry network. RTL service was first launched in Haa Dhaalu Atoll on June 11, 2022, while service was launched in Haa Alif Atoll on July 3, 2022, and the service was officially launched in Shaviyani Atoll on September 6, 2022.
Currently, RTL ferry fleet comprises 13 ferries in total, connecting Bodu Thiladhunmathi, which facilitates daily ferries in the 41 Islands of Zone 1. Moreover, the remaining 17 atolls are planned to be connected under Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the project. The government states this service will boost economic and social development across the nation.
Furthermore, children under the age of 3 and those with special needs registered under National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) will still be able to travel free of charge in RTL ferries.
In addition, MTCC aims to connect Maldives under the project within the next 24 months. And company estimates that 800 new jobs will be created when the service is expanded nationwide.
