The army must always have “command and control” over protecting the country from threats to its independence and sovereignty, both from inside and from without, according to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s statement while addressing during the official celebration for the Maldives National Defense Force’s 130th anniversary (MNDF).
Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih stated that country’s freedom is its greatest asset and that the valiant MNDF soldiers are the first line of defense guarding the Maldives’ independence and sovereignty.

He emphasized the military aid given to the general populace during the Covid-19 pandemic in this regard. Moreover, to express the gratitude for their services president announced his decision to award the servicemen a “Humanitarian Service Medal”.
The administration’s initiatives to strengthen military operational capability during the previous two years were also highlighted by President Solih.
