Over 3,000 Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) services have been provided to customers since the MRI service started at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital (KRH).

MRI is a detailed image of the body’s soft tissue and bone condition using the radio wave and magnetic field. MRI services at the hospital began on March 15, 2021. The project is valued at over MVR 23 million. According to statistics released by the hospital, 3,021 MRIs were conducted by the end of July 2022, while 2,394 people received the service from the hospital.

While it is an important goal of the current administration to decentralize special health services and provide services to the public, the hospital noted that the number of doctors, nurses and employees of special and general diseases has increased in large numbers.

Deputy CEO of KRH Ahmed Dawood noted that with the introduction of MRI services in KRH, will benefit the citizens from this region as they do not have to travel to the capital Male, for the service, reducing the money spent to get the service. Dawood estimates that usually a family has to spend almost MVR20000 if customers have to travel to Male’ to get that service including the travel cost.

Moreover, Dawood noted that the number of referrals has also been reduced with the introduction of several new services, and there are still many such important services that need to be established in the atolls. He also stated that the establishment of these services would ease the lives of the people.

Dawood added that despite the expansion of services, the introduction of new services, the increase in staff at KRH and the development of infrastructure, there are also some areas that need improvements in the hospital. Therefore, they are always working to improve the services of the hospital.

While the Government spends large amounts of money to establish MRI services in KRH, the MRI service for the customers is available under Aasandha without any additional fees.
