Six Classrooms constructed in HDh. Nolhivaram School back in November is still not in use due to the lack of Desks and Chairs.
Nolhivaram School has been facing difficulties due to space constraints for several years. It has been more than six months since it was handed over to the Ministry. The residents of the island are expressing concern over the lack of equipment required to start using the classrooms by the beginning of the academic year.
According to the Principal of Nolhivaram School Adnan Ali, it has been six months since new six classrooms were handed over to the Ministry after completing the main works.
Adnan also stated that only Desks and Chairs are missing to start the teaching in the new classrooms and as the Ministry has assured that it will be available before the new academic year, he hopes the ministry will be able to do so before the start of the new academic year.
The Principal further stated that Nolhivaram School is one of the most populous schools in the atolls. And he noted that 12 classrooms are still required to change Nolhivaram School to a single session.
Although the two-session school currently taught four grades in the afternoon and six grades in the morning session, the school is ready to teach in the morning session using six classrooms for the academic year.
Moreover, Nolhivaram has the second largest population in the atoll. However, Nolhivaram School does not have a science lab and there is no councilor or health assistant. Currently 650 students are studying at the School.
Swift Engineering Private Limited was awarded the project in December 2019 for the construction of six new classrooms in Nolhivaram School.
