Foundation has been laid for Halfway House to be established in Ha. Hoarafushi by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The foundation stone was laid by Home Minister Imran Abdulla at a ceremony held on the island. Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister Imran stated that the Halfway House in Hoarafushi will be completed by the beginning of next year. The Minister further stated that Halfway House will solve the issues faced when bringing juvenile offenders back into society.
The Halfway House is established to conduct the programmes for the Juveniles before they are released back to community, who have spent a certain period of time at a Juveniles correctional centre as specified in Article 82 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
Moreover, Juveniles who are staying at Halfway Houses will be able to participate in the community in accordance with the guidelines set by the center to prepare before Juveniles start to live in the community.
The Halfway House construction project in Hoarafushi was awarded to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to be completed within 150 days.
