Nellaidhoo Council Cup 2022, organized by HDh. Nellaidhoo Council has started.

The first match of the tournament, which began at the Nellaidhoo National Football Stadium yesterday evening, was played between FC Dunmaari and Club Refugee. Refugees won the match 4-0.

Nellaidhoo Council stated that the purpose of the competition include producing skilled football players in the island, promoting the spirit of sportsmanship, encouraging the youth to stay healthy, and making the island a united citizen.

According to the council, a total of 5 teams participated in the competition. Moreover, the winning team will receive a cash prize of MVR 25,000 while the runner-up team will receive a cash prize of MVR 7,000. Prizes and trophies will also be presented to the players and teams. Unlike the competitions held over the years, the best supporters teams will be selected for this year’s competition.

Nellaidhoo Council has held the competition every year in connection with Eid al-Adha, but the competition has not been held due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the past two years.
