Maldives State Shipping (MSS), a subsidiary of State Trading Organization (STO) has signed an agreement to purchase its third vessel for the fleet.

CEO and Managing Director of STO Hussain Amru signed the agreement on behalf of MSS at a special ceremony held at the STO Head Office yesterday and Managing Director of Kendler, Jonas Keller signed the agreement on behalf of the company.

Moreover, the new addition to the MSS fleet “MV MSS Graphene” has the same capacity as the MV MSS Galena. It can carry 420 loaded containers, and 680 empty containers.

Managing Director of STO Hussain Amru stated that MSS has made great achievements over the past two years and that the Maldives will be able to connect with other countries with the third vessel. He also stated that graphene will travel between Singapore, Malaysia and the Maldives, and that efforts are underway to connect the Arab world as well.

Furthermore, Amru noted that efforts are underway to develop the shipping sector in the Maldives through MSS and he remains resolute and hopeful that the shipping industry will become the third strongest economic sector in the country.

Even though the country lacks trained locals in the industry, according to MSS, the majority of employees in graphene will be Maldivians, like in other ships of its fleet.
